Sparkling blue waters, brilliant white sand and
sun-kissed skies grace Florida's shores with a timeless beauty and
ageless appeal. It's no wonder that from the Panhandle to the Keys,
Florida's magnificent beaches are worldwide favorites, and are
perpetually rated among the top 10 in the United States. University of
Maryland professor and coastal geomorphologist Stephen Leatherman,
otherwise known as "Dr. Beach," travels the nation's 650 beaches and
ranks them annually. His evaluations are based on 50 criteria, including
soft sand, clear blue water, abundant wildlife, and far-reaching views.
Florida has continued to capture stellar ratings since the survey began
in 1991, and its beaches make up nearly half of this year's overall best
in the country.
